Clinton, like Andrew Johnson in 1868, was acquitted of the charges of perjury and obstruction of justice by the Senate on February 12th, 1999. Two other impeachment articles, a second perjury charge and a charge of abuse of power failed in the House. Four charges were considered by the full House of Representatives; only two passed. A two-thirds vote was required to remove Clinton from office. This failed. Clinton, like Johnson, was acquitted on all charges.
