Often your perspective becomes clearer looking back. There are many other reasons I decided to attend college that had little to do with art, which was the intention that I told myself and others for going. Yet, after graduating, when others would inquire what my degree was in, after they learned that I had a college degree, I would almost be ashamed to admit that it was an art degree. It doesn’t hold as much status, as say, a business degree. Part of the feeling of unworthiness would be brought on by the reactions of others when I devulged what my degree was in, usually brought on by the question, “What are you going to do with that?” I am just now starting to get over that feeling of valuelessness and learning to show respect for the degree I worked so hard to obtain. Your article has inspired me to write something about my own experience and thoughts regarding pursuing a degree. Thank you.
